Seaford sweeps Sussex titles Lloyd, McGroerty win boys, girls races
SEAFORD -- Seaford High's Brian Lloyd nipped teammate Mitch Fryling by two seconds to win the boys individual crown at the Sussex County Cross Country Championships Tuesday at the Chapel Branch Nature Trail. Lloyd completed the 3.1-mile course in 17 minutes, 53 seconds, to lead the Blue Jays to the boys' team title. Seaford finished with 36 points, heading off Sussex Tech's 50 and Cape Henlopen's 52. The Blue Jays' Caitlin McGroerty earned her third individual girls crown in 19:58, topping Cape Henlopen's Becky Riedel by 45 seconds. The senior finished second as a freshman before winning the past two years. Seaford also earned the girls team title with 33 points, followed by Cape Henlopen's 38 and Sussex Tech's 53.

| Padua takes Catholic Conference title
BELLEVUE -- Padua won its third straight girls Catholic Conference Championship in cross country at Bellevue State Park on Tuesday. Padua's Jenna McCartan finished first in the race in 18:43. MIDDLETOWN -- Tatnall won the Delaware Independent Schools Conference boys cross country championship meet on Tuesday at St. Andrew's. Kyle Kershner of Tatnall won the individual competiton in 16:28. Klein of Tatnall won in 19:33 to beat Tower Hill's Julie Pike by 31 seconds.

FELTON -- Caesar Rodney High's boys and girls teams swept away the competition at the Kent County Cross Country Championships at Killens Pond State Park Tuesday. The Riders won the boys title with 27 points, 32 ahead of second place Dover. Caesar Rodney and Dover also finished 1-2 in the girls meet, with CR edging the Senators 27-33. Dover's Charles Gibson won his second straight Kent meet title by finishing the 3.1-mile course in 16 minutes, 21 seconds, 1:02 ahead of runner-up B.J. Friend of Caesar Rodney. Liz Paul paced the Caesar Rodney girls by winning the individual title in 20:16. Paul finished 57 seconds ahead of runner-up Sarah Taylor of Dover.
