CROSS COUNTRY 2001
GIRLS PREVIEW

There will be strong competition this year in both Divisions. Picking a favorite is difficult.  Lake Forest turned the tables on Seaford last year but will miss 4 year stalwarts Lena Ewing and Holly Wilson.  The Bluejays appear to have a slight edge in returning runners.  Ursuline is ready to get back into the mix as well.  In Division1, the top three of Caesar Rodney, Brandywine and Padua all lost outstanding seniors but have the majority of their teams back.  Lisa Klein of Tower Hill is back to defend her Division 2 title while County champ Jessica Leitsch of Brandywine is the top returning Division 1 finisher.

DIVISION 2

SEAFORD  Caitlyn McGroerty (Jr) leads the way with  Kate Laprad, Christina Garmendia and Christie Tobin forming a solid squad who could be tough to beat.
LAKE FOREST Allyson Wilson and Lauren Jumper will be the foundation of the Spartans squad
URSULINE Julie Taylor and Kathleen McLaughlin along with Kelly Mark and Stephanie Miller are a solid nucleus for new Coach Nick Russo who has some big shoes to fill.
DICKINSON Brittany Turner had a great year and should continue to be a major factor
HODGSON
Valerie Howell emerged as a solid runner in '01
MILFORD  Amy Mallamo is a standout for the Bucs
CAPE Betsy Hicks for the potentially dangerous Vikings
MOUNT PLEASANT Ashley Kelso keeps on getting better.

DIVISION 1

CAESAR RODNEY
Jill Hajec finished her great career but the Riders have the other 6 back from last years title team Kashante and Kasheka Codner along with Elizabeth Paul will be the nucleus.  Natalie Robbins, Ashlee Miller and Mido Hartman will be major factors and the strong junior high program may produce some others ready to step right in.  The team to beat.
BRANDYWINE
will miss Jenn Kutney but Jessica Leitsch leads an army of returnees who made big contributions last year.  Leslie Wason, Hilary Taylor and Alison Sanchez are proven runners.  Annie Hartnett, transfer from Padua, may have an impact as could Dana Stoltenberg, Amy Nerlinger and Sabrina Kennard.
PADUA Leaders Erin Lord and Colleen Reid are gone but this soph dominated squad will be strong.  Junior Beth Meany will be counted on heavily as will sophs Jessica Walsh, Janet Cleary and Sarah McCartan. A second straight strong frosh class may also play a big role.
CHARTER
may be good enough to join the top 3.  Rachel Ogburn and Colleen McCarthy lead a veteran cast that includes the Smith sisters, Puja Aysola and Jess Klosiewicz.
ST. MARK'S
Michelle Spadaro and Jacki Justison return to lead the Spartans.  Lisa Brothwood, Sonya Gupta, Liz Rohrback and Kate Ogden will be counted on heavily.
AI DUPONT Soph sensation Jaclyn Reifschneider will lead a young team.
MIDDLETOWN has solid returnees Sami Nimmerichter and Laura Billings and will be a strong force if a Katelyn Ealer runs.
NEWARK has Enya Spence to lead the way.
WILLIAM PENN Rebecca Arwine-Lind may be a standout.
SUSSEX TECH Rebecca Singh is a legitimate contender for the Individual title
