FUTURE OF TOWER HILL
SERIES: Rick Schuder
- This is the first
year we will NOT make $$ on Tower Hill meets
- Change in qualifying
standards is making some teams go out of state to make standard
- Next year
adjustments will be made to accommodate slower Tower Hill teams
- Are SIX meets too
many?
- Maybe cutting down
to two or three meets is the way to go
- Only ONE downstate
team came to TH this season
- Cost of medals?
- Cut down on # of
medals per meet (top 3 instead of 6)
- Raise entry fee?
- Can we approach
University of Delaware
- We could use media
to put pressure on UD officials to give us more access to field house
- Thursday night?
- We tried one year
to use UD for Field Events ONLY
·
We will
continue with Tower Hill Series
o
Many schools would drop
programs if TH series were eliminated

FIVE (and leave ONE February date as make-up date)

Proposal to the DIAA and The
Delaware
State
Track and Field Committee
Concerning the rule # 4.3.2.1 - related to cross country and track & field
PROPOSAL : Because the DIAA and the NFHS have a sincere interest in fair
play and sportsmanship, it is our duty as members of the State Track and Field
Committee, to make sure that our sport is governed by rules which are fair and
give no advantage or create a disadvantage for our member schools. It is
important that we strive to promote participation in our sport and do
everything possible to help our coaches and athletes continue to improve the
sport by affording them opportunity to compete fairly and with due respect to
the student/ athletes' abilities and continued growth.
Track and Field in our
state does not have junior varsity or freshmen competitions. The number of
participants in Track and Field is very high compared to the other sports
teams in the fall, winter and spring. Some students do not get a chance to
participate in meets during the Indoor season (winter) because of the the
limited meets and the limitations on participation at those meets. Most meets
are held during the weekends on Friday or Saturday. Some of the larger teams
have opted to take their teams to out of state competitions because it has
afforded their athletes more opportunity to participate, but it is expensive
to take entire teams. The meets at Tower Hill have very strict limitations on
entry numbers because of the size of the facility. Many student athletes who
are not varsity level performers get little or no chance to participate.
In other sports, like
football, basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball and soccer, the boys
and girls have the opportunity to participate on the JV and sometimes
freshmen level because contests are allowed for the other part of the team.
This occurs at different times - not necessarily following a varsity contest.
Schools and the DIAA have the interest of the student athle
